Countdown to Earth Day: Day 4

Did you know that the typical plastic bags you get with your purchases at the grocery store require 20 million barrels of oil each year to produce? That number, though, is for bags in the US alone. They're made from polyethylene (a crude oil product). They are not biodegradable, as they may take more than 1000 years to break down.

Market bags are tremendously popular now as a plastics alternative, and with good reason. I try to use them as often as possible when we go grocery shopping, and I always have a couple of these totes in the car.

I was checking out the great selection in the Indie world and found some great ones, each selling for $10, at Rainbow Swirlz.
