Countdown to Earth Day: Day 10

Friday, April 10, 2009

This afternoon I was browsing the Eco-Friendly Market at 1000 Markets, and stumbled upon my shop as a featured store. How cool. I was originally looking for a great item to showcase for day 10 of my Countdown to Earth Day series.

Instead of picking just one item or one shop, I'd like to spend Day 10 on the market as a whole.

The Eco-Friendly Market is a unique bunch of people, and I knew that I wanted to be a part of it when I became a seller on 1000 Markets. I applied to become a member and was happy to hear back that I was accepted into this particular market.

What types of businesses are part of the Eco-Friendly Market?

Green businesses.

The market defines green businesses as those operating "in ways that solve, rather than cause, both environmental and social problems. These businesses adopt principles, policies, and practices that improve the quality of life for their customers, their employees, communities, and the environment."

From the soap artisans to the cardmakers to the jewelry designers, you can be confident knowing that the items you'll be purchasing contain ingredients and pieces which have been ethically and responsibly sourced, with the finished product being made that way as well.

The Eco-Friendly Market also has a  great blog with green tips.

In honor of Earth Day, the market will be celebrating by holding a virtual festival from April 16th through the 22nd as well.
