Shop Indie: SBS Teas

Thursday, January 15, 2009

I just placed an order for some coffee and cocoa from SBS Teas.

For those unfamiliar, SBS Teas is a woman-owned business and they sell fabulous loose teas, tea accessories, hot cocoa, and even coffee.

I used to buy tea frequently there in 2006. Not long after, the lovely west coast owner sold the business, and I just didn't try it again until holiday time.

I almost had forgotten aboout SBS. Don't ask me how, but I did--until I found some absolutely divine Fairy Tale Tisane in my cupboard. That sent a lightbulb off and I placed an order for things to put in my Mom's Christmas basket.

When I placed my holiday order,  I was just as happy as I used to be as an SBS customer. The quality and service associated with this business (now located in Raleigh, NC) is great--just as it was before. The package--even in December-- arrived within 3 days. The coffee was good and the cocoa (particularly Caramel Praline) was delicious. Before I forget to mention it, if you love cocoa, you must try the Aztec Gold blend!

I was going to make some coffee this afternoon and noticed I am dangerously low on it. I wanted to purchase some from an Indie business and wasn't sure whether to order some from Pike Creek Coffee Roasters or SBS Teas.

I spotted the delicious holiday flavors on sale at an extremely low price. The sizes are a bit picked over, but I was able to get 8 ounce bags in 6 different flavors.

I'm trying the half pound sizes of:

Snowflake Sundae: a blend of Rich Bavarian fudge brownie topped with sticky caramel and a slow-roasted nut mix

Highlander Grogg:  rich, creamy butter rum, luscious caramel and toasted hazelnuts

Spiced Egg Nog: nutmeg and cinnamon swirled in a pool of rum-infused, decadently rich, silky smooth cream

Jingle Berrieschocolate, berries and vanilla

Santa's Toddy: hazelnut, a spritz of vanilla and lots of Jamaican Rum

Nutcracker's Parade: Fresh-roasted pecans and gooey praline mix poured over a batch of sinful white chocolate fudge

I also threw in a sampler of Decadent Sipping Chocolate to try as well. The total with shipping (darn the new USPS rates) was $25.25 for 3 pounds of coffee (6 flavors at 8 ounces each) and the sipping chocolate.

If you're a bakery lover AND a tea fan, I cannot emphasize enough how delicious the Fairy Tale Tisane is at SBS Teas. This is a blend of Organic rooibos, peppermint, chocolate pieces, vanilla yogurt nibs, almond slivers, apple, and natural flavorings. It is absolutely heavenly!!!

Did I mention the delicious chai offered at SBS? Or hot cider?

No matter what hot drink you prefer--loose teas, chai, cocoa, cider or coffee, SBS Teas has everything to quench your thirst and keep you warm on a chilly day! As I write this, it is 2. TWO degrees. Brr! I think I might go make myself some Caramel Praline Cocoa and wait for the mailman to bring my coffee....
