Makeup Chat: A *NEW* Holy Grail Mascara

Saturday, January 3, 2009

In August I posted that after years of searching, I had finally found the perfect mascara.

Tarte Lash Hugger mascara is a wonderful, wonderful product and revolutionized the paraben-free mascara market by being an eco-friendly, non-toxic product while actually being a great product in terms of performance.

A few weeks back I found some more products on the shelves from Physicians Formula. Their Organic Wear line is quite good, and I have loved some of their products, while finding some others mediocre at best. When I found a new paraben-free mascara with a list of good ingredients (free of everything on my banned list), I just had to try. The line was on sale and I have a coupon, so I got this new mascara for about 7 bucks. That is $12 less than my Tarte mascara from Sephora. I recently was lucky enough (yeah right!) to have pink eye, so I had to toss out the Tarte since it had been contaminated. That isn't a fun thing to do when you just opened a new tube 2 weeks before.

Here are the ingredients of the Organic Wear Mascara from Physicians Formula:

INGREDIENTS: CITRUS AURANTIUM DULCIS (ORANGE) FRUIT WATER*, GLYCERIN, IRON OXIDE, MICROCRYSTALLINE CELLULOSE, GLYCERYL STEARATE, WATER, BEESWAX*, JOJOBA ESTERS, TAPIOCA STARCH*, COPERNICIA CERIFERA (CARNAUBA) WAX*, STEARIC ACID, GLYCERYL CAPRYLATE, ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF JUICE*, CELLULOSE GUM, CINNAMIC ACID, CUCUMIS SATIVUS (CUCUMBER) FRUIT EXTRACT*, GLYCINE SOYA (SOYBEAN) OIL*, HYDROLYZED ORYZA SATIVA (RICE) PROTEIN, MAGNESIUM ALUMINUM SILICATE, OLEA EUROPAEA (OLIVE) LEAF EXTRACT*, MAY CONTAIN: TITANIUM DIOXIDE

It has been about 3 weeks since I have been using this daily. How does it compare to Tarte Lash Hugger, my previous favorite? Keep in mind that Tarte is a higher-end brand in terms of cosmetics. You won't find it at the drugstore. Tarte doesn't offer coupons in the Sunday paper to Buy 1, Get 1 Half Price. Tarte's packaging is a bit nicer than the drugstore brand.

That being said, I actually am finding that I much prefer the drugstore brand! The ingredients are just as good as the higher priced product. The product works very well, lengthening and thickening without clumping and smearing. No itching, redness or irritation after wearing all day long either!

If price were no object, I would definitely buy the Organic Wear from Physicians Formula. It is everything a mascara should be in a market that is realizing there's a need for greener, healthier products.

You can find this at drugstores, Wegmans, Target, Wal-Mart, Ulta, and several other stores.
