Last fall I saw her work up close and personal at Rochester's Craft Company No. 6 on University Avenue right by the Memorial Art Gallery. I love going to this shop because there are so many talented artists featured there and you it is the ideal place to find a unique and perfect gift for a very special occasion. I can tell you from looking at the pieces that her jewelry is of the highest quality. The attention to detail is absolutely amazing, and these are pieces you will have for years and years to come.
ETSY LOVE: Kristin Perkins Glass Jewelry
Friday, September 19, 2008
Kristin Perkins has had a passion for creating jewelry for more than 20 years. Her passion is more than that, though. She has talent, expertise and true love for her art.
Kristin makes beautiful earrings, necklaces, cufflinks and more from Italian and American Bullseye glass. Each bead is made by hand using the Lampwork method. Her pieces are bold while being simple and very chic.
I know what you're going to say--You typically see me posting about vintage-inspired jewels from Etsy. Looking back, I haven't ever chosen anything contemporary in terms of jewelry for Etsy Love.
What is wonderful about jewelry, though, is that your taste in jewelry does not necessarily follow your tastes in home decorating. I love Shabby Chic style and I collect flea market finds with a vintage flair. My personal decorating style is not reflective of what I wear, though.
I am pretty simple with my clothing. When it is chilly out, I'm in boot cut or trouser jeans practically everyday with a simple crewneck fitted sweater. I pair those with kitten heels, ballet flats or foots. With that simple style, I always make sure to add a bolder piece of jewelry--something with color. I am never without earrings or a bold necklace to add a bit of balance to my simple staples. Jewelry is a great way to express yourself when you want to keep your clothes on the simple side. As much as I love vintage pieces, I have just as many pieces of modern, geometric jewelry in my wardrobe.
I would definitely wear Kristin's pieces. I love how unique they are--you won't find 30 shops on Etsy with the same concept with a slightly different take on it. I like that. I love how she uses many of my favorite colors, specially aquatics and rich tones. I have pictured the two that caught my eye the most.
I could wear either as daily earrings--simple, yet colorful and modern. I like them very much!
When I write my ETSY LOVE pieces, it is so much fun to picture in my head what the actual item looks like. What is wonderful, though, is that Kristin Perkins jewelry can be found in several states across the nation and on her own website.
She is also present at many arts shows including those in her home state of Michigan and a recent art event in Washington, DC.
If you're looking for a gift for your sister or your friend and don't want to get something she already has, I highly recommend heading over to Kristin's Etsy shop. Believe it or not, Christmas is 3 months away. Why not get some of your shopping done now?
